May 2023 Minutes Annual Parish Meeting

OLD SOMERBY ANNUAL PARISH MEETING

Monday 20 May 2023 at 7pm in the Fox and Hounds Conservatory

The Meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Parish Council, Cllr Vicky Lowndes.

Present : Cllrs Nigel Percy, Vron Stevens and Peter Burrows and David Holmes their clerk, SKDC Councillor Sarah Trotter together with 2 members of the public.

1.   Apologies:  One apology had been received from Cllr Betty North due to illness.

2.   Minutes of the last meeting held on 17 May 2023 and any matters arising.

The Clerk read the minutes. There were no mattes arising. They were signed by the Chairman.

3.    Chairman’s Report.  

Firstly, I would like to thank my fellow councillor’s Veronica Stephens, Betty North, Nigel Percy and Peter Burrows for their continued contribution during this term. 

I would also like to thank David Holmes, our Parish Clerk.  He is without doubt, a great asset to the council and is highly appreciated for his advice as well as unpaid work.  

To all who help to keep our Parish clean and looking it’s best, Thank you.  

2024 continues to be challenging for many of us with general living cost.  It’s the strength of friendship in our community that makes life just that little bit easier.  

This year we look forward to more village events bringing the community together.

4.    Village Organisations/groups presentations.  Len Watson, Church Warden, mentioned that the Church Stall at the recent successful Brocante at the home of Tom and Chloe Jonason had raised £333. There was to be a Coffee Morning at the home of Robert and Samantha Baskerville the later that week. A Dog Show was to be held on 14 July 2024 on Walnut Tree Field and then a Garden Party on 25 August, 2024 at The Manor by kind permission of Peter and Vron Stephens. A Carol Service would be held in the church on the Sunday evening before Christmas.

Len also mentioned that the Rector Anna would be retiring later this year with a service of farewell at Ingoldsby Church on 1 September, 2024. Also mentioned was the weekly Evening Prayer held on Wednesdays at 4pm to which all are welcome. The service usually lasted 20 -25 minutes.

Special mention was made of the 2 volunteers who regularly cut the grass around the Church. Their work was much appreciated.

There being no further business the meeting was declared closed.
